Inphernals chittered among themselves as they sauntered down the wide network of streets, each lined with elaborate stores and restaurants. The moon hung high above the vibrant city, with towering buildings in almost every direction. Amidst all the lively hustle and bustle that came from an evening in Crossroads, you were busy stumbling through clusters of people, quietly excusing yourself every time you had to gently push past a small group or two.

Eventually, you made it to your destination and walked in through the front door of a vintage dive bar, taking a quick survey of the room. The walls were decorated in a plethora of trinkets; framed pictures that were callbacks to pop culture and posters of artists from way back when. Fluorescent bulbs were scattered across the ceiling and there was a handwritten menu near the top of the wall just behind the counter, listing a variety of different cocktails and drinks.

It wasn’t long until you spotted Hyperlaser sitting at a table located near the far right corner of the room, hands resting on the table. He’d usually arrange something like this every now and then, whenever he was in the mood for a few drinks after a long day of hard work. The mercenary often chose this shabby-looking bar for a reason you didn’t know. Though, you supposed the charm came from the oddly comforting environment as well as the vigorous and prudent bartender who was particularly good at his craft.

    “…Hey.”

Hyperlaser gave you a small wave as you took a seat opposite from him. You simply replied by waving back at him, a small smile on your face. He was usually quite a reserved person who kept to himself most of the time. He wasn’t much of a talker either, only saying what needed to be said and nothing else.

“So… how goes? Anything interesting happen recently?”

The mercenary continued after another brief moment. Despite not being a huge fan of small talk and often failing to maintain it at times, Hyperlaser still tried to start up a conversation with you.
