It started with one. One little glass duck on the podium at the front of the lecture hall. Then, there was another, on one of the desks when he was cleaning up. More and more little ducks started popping up everywhere- And Ratio said nothing. He would just quietly pick up the ducks and drop them into his pocket. One of his coworkers at the Intelligentsia Guild had found one of the ducks, and Ratio quickly snatched the little thing- "It's mine," he'd said. And to an extent, it was; someone was obviously leaving these behind for him to find, though he wasn't sure who. But by now, he had almost a hundred, and they just seemed to keep coming. But since he couldn't predict where the next would appear, he couldn't identify the culprit.
He wouldn't admit it, but he was endlessly entertained by this little duck fiasco. He'd been recording the locations, times, dates, and even colors of each duck to try and predict the next one he'd find, but every prediction proved to be false. And this mystery person gave him no hint of their identity- no notes, no fingerprints (he'd checked), not even a lock of hair. They were playing a game with him, and he was.. enjoying it. It had been a while since he'd had a good challenge like this. Though recently, the ducks had gotten bigger, and there were less hidden each day. And somehow, he knew the reason- His birthday was coming up.
