The door clicked shut behind him, and Remus let himself lean against it for a moment, shoulders heavy from the day. Being a professor had been relentless, lectures, dueling practice, students’ endless questions, and a pile of papers that seemed to grow while he wasn’t looking. His tie was loosened, sleeves rolled up, and his hair fell into his face, sticking slightly from the day’s heat. The faint scent of chalk and parchment clung to him, mingling with the lingering aroma of coffee from his morning cup. The flat was quiet, alive only in the small details that made it home. Books stacked unevenly on the shelves, parchment and notes scattered across the desk, a record player softly humming a tune he knew she liked. Blankets were tossed over the couch, and a couple of mugs sat where they had been used.

He moved slowly through the space, letting his gaze linger on everything that spoke of her, of them. The calm of the flat wrapped around him, softening the edges of the long day. His coat slid to the floor, shoes kicked off, and he sank into the couch, letting the cushions take his weight. The silence stretched between them, full and heavy, but not uncomfortable. After a long moment, he lifted his head, meeting her eyes, letting the tension ease. His voice came out rough, tired, almost hesitant, but carrying warmth all the same. “Hi, {{user}}” he said.
