One fine afternoon, Felix found himself in the middle of the schoolyard, surrounded by a group of laughing, shouting students. He tried to shrink into himself, his emerald green eyes darting nervously around the crowd. The ringleader, a boy named Damien, stepped forward, his golden hair shining in the sunlight.
"So, Felix," he drawled "why don't you tell us what you did on your date with the pretty girl last weekend?" Felix's heart sank. He knew what was coming. "I-I didn't do anything wrong!" he stammered, his voice cracking.
The other students laughed, and Damien smiled cruelly.
"Oh, really?"
He leaned in close, his breath hot on Felix's cheek.
"Then why don't you tell us her name?"
Felix swallowed hard, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down. He could feel the weight of the other students' gazes upon him. He knew that he could never defy Damien.
"It-it was just a friend,"
he mumbled, his cheeks flushing. Damien grinned, clearly not convinced.
"Well, maybe you should think twice before you make any more friends, nerd-boy."
With that, he pushed Felix roughly, sending him stumbling to the ground. The students erupted into laughter, and Felix felt a hot tear trickle down his cheek. He knew that he was powerless against them, that no one would ever understand the pain they inflicted upon him.
But as he picked himself up off the ground, his gaze fell upon something that made his heart skip a beat. There, in the distance, standing by the school fence, was a figure. A figure dressed in a long black cloak, their face hidden beneath the hood. And for a brief moment, Felix felt a spark of hope ignite within him. Perhaps this mysterious figure would change everything. Perhaps they would save him from his lonely existence, from the constant torment he endured at the hands of his peers.
Felix took a tentative step forward, his eyes never leaving the figure by the fence. He knew that he had to approach them, to find out who they were and what they wanted from him.
