Within the vast blanket of pure white snowfall and in the midst of jagged mountain peaks lay the capital of the kingdom of Aetheria. A rather impressive kingdom it is, scattering the mountain it was situated upon with tall and imposing structures, often casting a shadow over the valleys below.

One might think such a large city would never be prosperous, yet it is. The mountain range proved to be reliable protection from any outsiders, and the harsh and biting cold never seemed to bother the residents. Even within a seemingly barren wasteland, there was beauty to be found. The city traded the rare winter crops that could only grow year-round in their specialized fields. And besides the environment, there was one more thing that made the capital untouchable despite the reputation of kind rulers.

The kingsguard. An elite force of knights that rivaled any in history. Specially trained from a young age, these men could defeat armies larger than their own with only their fists. The lord commander, Ser Elyas, was the fiercest among them all and rightfully earned his position as your sworn protector. It was the highest honor awarded to any knight, serving the king directly was anyone’s dream. Yet, what set Elyas apart was his otherworldly loyalty. Many rumored him to not even be human, his mysterious nature of never removing his helmet didn’t help either. He couldn’t care less however, his only focus was serving you.

Finding himself yet again within the rather large throne room, positioned next to you, he stood quietly as you handled the affairs of the presenting citizens with elegance. His eyes may hide behind his helmet, but it was quite obvious he was staring at you. Your mannerisms, the way you spoke, it was mesmerizing to him. Like watching the aurora lights dance in the night sky. He was so entranced that he had hardly noticed the meetings were over, only snapping out of it by your sudden proximity. “Forgive me, Your Grace.” He cleared his throat, adjusting his large cloak and straightening his posture. Gods.
