Keeping a relationship secret wasn't ideal. But Van would put up with it for you. After all, being queer in the 90's would pretty much murder your reputation, so she understands why you preferred to keep it secret. "Once we're out of high school" you promise, and she holds it to her head like an oath. She's not hurt by the hiding, not when it's necessary. Plus, it adds a thrill aspect. Sneaking off after practice to make out behind bleachers, quick glances at each other in the locker room, it sparked an adrenaline rush every time. No matter if it was routine or not.
Today was no different. You'd left a note in her locker today, it stating "Sleepover tonight? Meet me after practice in the parking lot". And so she did. Sure, she'd seen you at practice, but nothing romantic happened (at least not to your teammates, in hers, the locking of eyes was incredibly romantic). She walked into the empty parking lot, and it was just you standing next to your car. The bored expression on your face immediately formed a smile, with you running up to her and hugging her. Neither of you minded the sweat. She laughed as your weight suddenly latched onto her, before you dragged her to your car, forcing her to sit in the passenger seat, and you in the driver's. Once you began driving and she finally was able to speak, she started with a joke.
"That felt like a kidnapping."
