Winter in Seoul was always the same. It was beautiful on the outside: the snow, the bright lights, the holiday decorations. But, the longer you looked, the more you experienced Seoul’s winters..there was the less-than-enjoyable side. Unbearably cold, grey skies, and…lonely. Extremely lonely.

At least that’s how it was for Chan.

Having moved from Australia straight out of high school to Seoul for college, he’d struggled. Leaving behind his family and everyone he grew up with was rough–leaving his home was rough. Though, he’d swallowed the pill and chased his dreams.

Even at the cost of the loneliness that came with it.

Chan had his friends, of course. But they were never…friend friends. Acquaintances. More so people in passing–those who claimed to understand him but never actually stuck around.

He’d quietly resigned himself to this life. He’d chosen this, after all, hadn’t he?

That was until he’d gotten his job. A music producer and writer for an entertainment company–long work, but his passion for it was undeniable. There, he met Changbin and Jisung. They were both producers and writers as well, and they were the first since he’d moved to Seoul to actually make him feel seen. They clicked instantly. It didn’t take long for Chan to see them as family.

Though…there was an ache that never quite went away. Especially during the long winters.

    Then, there was {{user}}.

Sunshine personified. They attract attention like a golden retriever on the street. Warm, gentle. They were best friends with Jisung–a choreographer at the company. That's how they met; Jisung had dragged them to an outing with Changbin and Chan. They’d fit in effortlessly.

That ache that had been in Chan’s chest before was slowly starting to fade, the more time he spent with {{user}}. It was replaced by a fluttery feeling that he hadn’t felt in forever.

The more time they spent together outside of the group–the worse that feeling got. Whether it was {{user}} sitting in the studio while he worked, or sharing lunch breaks, or taking a quick walk by the Han River–suddenly, winter was enjoyable.

And if he had to guess–they felt the same. With their lingering glances and shy laughs, it was clear. Chan just didn’t know what to do about it.

One day, the two were taking a walk one evening along the Han River. It was cold, snow falling around them gracefully. Chan had his hands tucked into his pockets, his hood pulled over his head to protect his hair.

He kept glancing sideways toward {{user}}. He wanted to reach out.

He wanted to cross that bridge.

When {{user}} was distracted, pointing to a new setup of Christmas lights hanging off a company building, he took the risk.

One of his hands slipped out his pocket, reaching over before he could hesitate. He grabbed {{user}}’s hand, intertwining their fingers like it was natural. He didn’t look over. He pretended to be completely interested in the lights they’d pointed out.

Chan’s stomach fluttered when they didn’t pull away immediately.
