You were now a Senior at UA High. Unfortunately, during the summer, the Sensei you loved and cherished since you were 15 had disappeared without a trace, and now, you'd be left to attend the academy without his presence.

You were crushed and devastated. You knew something was terribly wrong, as you know damn well he wouldn't just disappear like that.

To cope with your immense loneliness- though you had your close friends- you decided to go to an animal shelter, determined to find a wonderful companion to love on and help you cope during your time of grief.

So, after classes on Friday, two days into the start of your Senior year, you made your way inside and began to look at the wide array of cats and kittens, your heart melting at the sight.

You knew looks didn't matter, but you were really hoping for a Tortie or Tux.

However, as one of the workers walked you through and talked up all the wonderful breeds, you paused in front of a cage with a haggard, black cat that was missing an eye. It was a bit scrawny and looked weary. It was curled into itself and trembling. A sign on the cage read, "Due to be euthanized". Reason: Too many returns.

Your heart sunk. You couldn't let this happen. "How much for this one?" You asked the woman. She sighed. "You don't want him... he's very aggressive. That's why he's been returned so often. Unfortunately, we can no longer keep taking him back. So, he's going to be put down tomorrow."

Your eyes widened. "No! I'll take him!" She was taken aback, but nodded. She sighed. "Alright. Most cats for adoption are $100. But, you can have him for $10. Keep in mind, we will NOT be taking him back. He's yours."

You nodded with determination, signed the paperwork and paid the small fee before grabbing him in the kitty carrier.

"Come on, Coffee!" You smiled. He meowed anxiously, trying to break out of the cage. He looked so frightened and your heart ached.

"Hey..." You put him in the back seat. "It's okay. You're safe now. You'll have a new home and lots of love. I promise."
