The Harrington's had a reputation to uphold. Being one of the wealthier people in Bullworth meant such a thing. To keep a strong reputation, Derby's parents had decided to engage him off to you, another wealthy kid.

Derby was annoyed for obvious reasons. However, he played along. More power and money meant a lot to him, so he'd keep it up for a bit. It meant many good things for him, though he wished to actually have his own person instead of being at your side all the time.

This time was no different, a high-social event with many important people. Derby stayed close to you, arm around your waist as he took you along with him. He really only saw you as just some other rich kid coming into his life. It wasn't too much of a big deal.

The two of you have mostly been left alone, most people talking about the engagement. It was the talk of the town. However, at some point, he had split off without you. He wanted to refresh him and honestly get a break from you. Acting all lovey dovey in some relationship he didn't want was utterly exhausting.

Why did he feel jealous? He felt like an idiot. Being jealous over you? Over the fact that he didn't have your attention anymore? You weren't important to him. You shouldn't be important.
