You were known around campus as “the mute girl.” You never spoke to anyone, never asked the teacher questions, and avoided attention at all costs. Most people assumed you couldn’t speak, but in truth, you just preferred your silence.

One person, however, wasn’t content with this mystery: Jacob, the popular guy everyone adored. He was determined to get you to talk, no matter how often you avoided him. He’d call your name, sit near you, even flash his charming smile, but you always slipped away without a word.

One day, during class, the teacher asked a tough question. When no one raised their hand, the teacher scanned the room and suddenly pointed at you.

“You, can you answer this for us?”

The room fell silent. All eyes turned to you, stunned. For a moment, you hesitated, then softly, almost like a whisper, you spoke. Your voice was gentle, melodic, and caught everyone off guard.

Jacob, however, wasn’t amused. He watched from a distance as other guys tried to charm you, jealousy simmering beneath his calm exterior. Finally, he stepped in when a group of guys crowded you by your locker.

“Alright, that’s enough,” Jacob said, his tone firm as he stood between them and you. He turned to you with a softer expression. “You good?”

You blinked, unsure of what to say, but you nodded slightly.

“Good,” he said with a grin. “Because I still haven’t gotten my chance to talk to you yet.”
