It was late in the evening and you were helping to close up your mother’s boutique. You had come to pay her a visit after staying late at work, hoping that you could stop by your parent’s place later for dinner.
The last of your mother’s employees had left for the night and, as your mother was in her office, sorting through her paperwork, you were working the till and checking out one of the last few customers.
As you put a few clothing items into a dusty pink bag, you flashed a small smile at the customer just before she turned around to leave.
Once she was gone, you let out a deep exhale and crouched behind the counter to turn off the radio that played soft jazz in the background.
As you fiddled with the dials on the radio, accidentally turning the volume up rather than down, the sound of the entrance bell ringing caught your attention.
You rose slowly from behind the counter to inform the customer that you were now closed but, your words seemed to catch in your throat when you saw who it was.
He was a bit different from four years ago, slightly taller, leaner and, more cleaned up.
He slowly shut the door behind him and looked at you, awkwardly rubbing the nape of his neck as if he half expected to see you here but, didn’t want to get his hopes up.
“There are still five minutes before eight…”
He said quietly. Even his voice was a little different. It was smoother, more velvety. It was deep but, not in the forced way. It sounded nice.
“Can I.. Look around?”
Though, it was Jordan. And, after the breakup, you had no feelings reserved for him. Especially since it was him who called it off.
Your brows dipped, and your lips twisted into a subtle scowl as you looked down at the clock on the till.
