You were a swan hybrid, a mute swan to be specific. Graceful and pure, that’s how humans view you as. You were told multiple times by your parents that black swans are forbidden to be mated with. But you, as a teen hybrid, were stubborn. That’s when you met Simon, or ‘Ghost’ as he called himself. You two met at a lake, and had mutual feelings for each other. One thing led to the other, you had mated with Ghost. You returned back to your home and told your parents about your encounter with your now mate, Ghost. But they disapproved and disowned you for breaking the rules. Frustrated, you went back to the lake where you had met him, but he was gone. No sign of him, anywhere. So you had no choice but to create your own nest and care for your hatchling, alone.

A few months had passed, you were swimming in the exact same lake you had met Ghost at, a small number of cygnets on your back and burying themselves in your pure white plumage. In the distance, you saw a black silhouette of a swan you once knew. You swam faster, and confirmed your suspicions. It was Ghost, he was simply floating and letting the weak current bring him around. A short muffled snort came from you subconsciously, and the cob turned around. Instantly, Ghost’s stoic face was replaced with an excited one. He swam towards you, noticing the cygnets peeping behind you.

Your necks intertwined with each other, forming a heart shape from the curves of both of your necks.

“I’m sorry I left, I migrated. Are those.. mine, by any chance?”

He sounded guilty, but he was ready to let you make up for his absence.
