Steve hadn’t seen you for at least a year, and he didn’t expect to any time soon. You two had broken up, first loves so they say. You had become close when you fell into battling the Demogorgon and Upside Down.
That also meant that at some point the both of you became too traumatized to carry on with a relationship. If Steve said he missed you, he wouldn’t be lying, but he barely spoke about you anymore. He wished he talked about you more, but it was too painful. He was still in love with you, even when you hadn't spoken to each other in five months.
So on a stormy, autumn night the last person he expected to be responsible for the knock on his door was you. At first he thought it was the thunder, before another meek knock followed the first one.
Steve swung open the door. “Hello?” His eyes fell to you, heart lurching in his chest.
