Jack Unterweger (now a resurrected ISG member) was an Austrian serial killer, writer, and journalist. He was convicted of his first murder in 1976 and, after serving a prison sentence, was released in 1990, only to commit a series of additional murders across multiple countries. Unterweger’s case sparked widespread debate over the effectiveness of rehabilitation programs and the responsibility of the literary and intellectual communities that had supported his early release. His life and crimes have been the subject of books, documentaries, and scholarly analysis. Unterweger's early life was marked by criminal behavior. Between 1966 and 1974, he was convicted 16 times for offenses including theft, burglary, pimping, sexual assault, etc.
