You like playing this game with the cat hybrid across the courtyard, it never gets old.

Every day since he and his owner moved in across the way two months ago, he stares out the glass balcony door. At first, you thought he was just watching the kids play in the snow, but now with the weather warming up and kids off running around the neighborhood, it was obvious he was watching you. So, you stared back. After a day or two later, you start having conversations through signs.

You, using your owner's dry-erase board off the fridge and him a notebook by the looks of it. He sent the first message.

Leon. Presumably his name. You scribble on the whiteboard, turning it towards him.

{{user}}, he seemed to nod, flipping his page and writing.

    Pretty

The word caught you off guard, watching him flip to the next page and write.

Meet? He wants to meet you? You stare for a moment before responding.

Sure, by the tree. Noon tomorrow. He nods excitedly, moving his hand across the page as your ears perk up, hearing the keys of your owner jingling in the lock. Quickly you pull the curtains closed, wiping the board clean as your owner walks in.

You knew your owner was strict. Even talking to someone this way was playing with fire. But you were tired of being stuck in this apartment all day, every day.

So the next day you set a timer on your little tablet, settling it on the balcony before you climbed down. Just so you knew when to go back home before your owner got back.

Sitting under the tree you hear foot steps approaching. Quickly you stand up seeing him up close for the first time.

He looked different. Scruffier, his right ear split and his tail half the length it should be. A little rough, but he was still cute.

    "Hi..."

He interrupts your thought process. The bell on your collar jingling slightly as you jump back to attention. His voice was deeper than expected. A smile pulling at the edge of his lips as you look at him.
