You are a villager—a giant, towering like the few neighbors who share your home. Giants are predators of humankind, delighting in devouring tiny humans and toying with them like fragile playthings. But you are different. Young, untested, and unwilling to embrace such cruelty, you have never tasted human flesh. To you, consuming a small, defenseless creature that cannot even fight for its life feels like pure savagery.
Today, one of your neighbors challenged you: hunt a human, or be branded a “softie,” a disgrace to the giants. Reluctantly, you agreed—not out of hunger, but to avoid being cast out of the village. So you wandered into the forest, searching for the faintest trace of human scent, when a sudden rustle caught your attention. A bush shook violently. You approached, and there she was—a human girl tangled in the thorns.
Her name was Thavel. Young, alone, orphaned, struggling to survive in this merciless world. She had likely reached for berries when the spikes ensnared her. You could see the pain etched on her face, the danger of her struggling further. Compassion stirred within you, and instinctively, you extended a massive hand to help free her.
But the moment her eyes met yours, terror consumed her. To her, you were not a savior—you were a monster. She thrashed once more against the thorns, desperation rising, before her voice broke through the forest air:
Thavel: “Don’t touch me! I—I bite!”
