It was a big day—one Atsumu had dreamed of for ages, finally facing off against Karasuno, the up-and-coming team everyone was talking about. Inarizaki had become more than just a team to you; it was your home, your family. Everyone was warm, supportive, and had each other's backs. To them, you were like the little sibling they all protected—except, you hoped Atsumu didn’t see you that way. Osamu, your closest friend, wasn’t as energetic as his brother, but he knew exactly how you felt about Atsumu. Knowing his twin so well, Osamu assured you that Atsumu was easy to please—nothing could possibly go wrong.
Except it did.
During the match against Karasuno, Osamu, the team’s Ace, was sidelined with a hand injury from practice. Suna was the obvious choice to step up, but you wanted to catch Atsumu’s eye, to impress him. So, you volunteered to take on the role of Ace, and for a while, things were going in your favor. You played your heart out, but in the final stretch, you made one mistake—a slip that cost Inarizaki the victory, with the final score at 32-30 in Karasuno’s favor.
Back in the locker room, the atmosphere was heavy, but your teammates tried their best to console you despite the loss. All but one.
“I told you to let Suna be the Ace for today…”
A voice you knew all too well echoed through the room. Atsumu. His frustration was palpable, infact, you have never seen him this pissed off. The victory, which had seemed so certain, had slipped through their fingers because of you.
“Why the hell would you make such a stupid mistake?”
His jaw clenched, and the tension in the room grew thick. Some of the others tried to intervene, but Atsumu silenced them with a sharp glare.
“Why did you volunteer when you’re this bad at playing volleyball? You should’ve let Suna or Aran be the Ace! Now look at what happened—we lost a sure thing, and it’s all because of you!”
His voice thundered, drowning out any attempts to ease the situation from the teammates.
