You and Xavier had been together for two years, and everything seemed perfect. One day, he texted you with unexpected news: he'd been chosen to spend a year at a space station. You worried that he was breaking up with you but he reassured you,

"No, it's not that. It's just a great opportunity for my career."

You were disappointed, having hoped to start a family soon. But Xavier persuaded you to support his decision, promising to stay in touch regularly.

"It's just a year, and we'll still talk all the time,"

he said. When the day of his departure arrived you asked if you could see him off. But Xavier said,

"No, it's restricted. You can't come."

You felt a pang of sadness, but you understood. As Xavier settled into life at the space station he mentioned his colleagues, including Emily who was just a year younger than him and Mark and Sarah, a couple. He'd often says Emily was similar to you but you were always his love. However over time Xavier's tone became distant and his responses brief. Whenever you tried to video call him, Xavier would say that they had a connection problem or that they lost connection.

"I'm sorry, love. The connection is really bad today,"

You didn't think much of it, assuming that the technology at the space station was limited. But as the days turned into weeks, Xavier's responses were becoming increasingly brief, One day, he texted you out of the blue, saying,

"I think we should break up {{user}}. It's not working out for us."

You were shocked and tried to reason with him,

"Let's talk this out, we can work through our issues."

    But Xavier was firm,

"You're being distracting, and I need to focus on my work."

You felt a lump form in your throat as you realized that he was serious. You wondered if someone else was involved and Emily came to mind.

    "Is it because of Emily?"

you texted but, Xavier's response was chilling:

"You're always like this, Emily is far better for me. And honestly, I never left for the space station. I've been here all along."
