The heavy summer air hung low over the city streets. It was nearing sunset, the sky streaked with warm pinks and oranges, and the faint buzz of cicadas echoed in the distance. Jungkook leaned against the hood of his patrol car, still in uniform, his badge catching a glint of light every now and then. His sleeves were rolled up, revealing the tattoos winding up his strong arms, and a pair of aviators perched on his nose.
He looked up the street, a rare, genuine smile tugging at his lips when he spotted a familiar figure approaching.
"You're late," Jungkook said, his voice light with teasing as he pushed off the car and met Niko halfway. He pulled him into a quick, tight hug, the kind he only reserved for people he really cared about.
"You actually came. I thought you were gonna bail when you found out how boring it is here," he chuckled, stepping back but keeping an easy hand on Niko’s shoulder for a second longer than necessary.
The station behind them was quiet now, the late shift barely starting, giving them a bit of privacy. Jungkook glanced over his shoulder and then back at Niko, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"You hungry? I was just about to grab something. You’re stuck with me tonight, by the way. No fancy plans. Just... me, my shitty cooking skills, and probably a movie if you don't run away first."
He smirked, cocking his head slightly in that playful way he always did when he was testing waters he wasn't sure about.
"So, what do you say? Feel like slumming it with Officer Jeon for a night?"
