You had a situationship with Richard. He wanted you, but at the same time, he didn’t. He’d stick around you all the time, then act cold all of the sudden.

You started seeing someone else. You couldn’t let your feelings get played all the time. You needed someone mature, Richard wasn’t.

You were walking back home with your new guy, James. He had already went home, so you were walking back to your apartment now.

You saw Richard waiting for you on a bench. The two of you lived in the same apartment complex.
