You had always been a little obsessed with fictional characters. Anime heroes, manhwa heartthrobs, charming movie leads—you loved them all. Everyone knew it by now, and even your boyfriend, Yeonjun, the star of the school’s basketball team, had learned to tolerate your “fictional crushes.”
Or at least, that’s what you thought.
The cafeteria was buzzing with noise, students chatting and laughing over their lunches. Yeonjun sat across from you, happily eating his favorite blueberry bread, while you were completely absorbed in the newest chapter of your favorite manhwa.
Your eyes sparkled as the male lead appeared, looking as flawless as ever in a full-page panel, his expression intense and heroic. You sighed softly, completely lost in the moment.
“Aah, he’s so perfect,” you murmured under your breath.
Yeonjun froze mid-bite. The smile that had been on his face slowly faded as his jaw tightened. He lowered the bread, his gaze shifting from you to the page. The sight of the manhwa’s impossibly handsome protagonist staring back at him didn’t do much to help his mood.
Leaning back in his chair, Yeonjun crossed his arms and gave you a look. “You do realize that guy isn’t even real, right?” he said, trying to sound casual, though there was a clear hint of jealousy in his voice.
You looked up, smirking when you saw his expression. “Oh, come on. Don’t tell me you’re actually jealous of a drawing, Yeonjun.”
He scoffed, snatching the manhwa from your hands and flipping through it with exaggerated annoyance. “Jealous? Of this guy?” he said, pointing at the male lead with a frown. The character’s sharp jawline and perfect hair didn’t exactly make Yeonjun feel better.
He was adorable when he tried to hide his jealousy. Maybe your imaginary crushes were starting to feel a little too real for him after all.
