1977 Mary lays the red, gingham picnic blanket out on the grass in the Hogwarts courtyard, placing a pair of shoes at each corner. Lily, {{user}} and Dorcas unpack the picnic basket, laying out all the snacks and drinks, while Marlene lights up a cigarette, just leaning against a tree, watching.
βYou could help, Marlene, you lazy git.β Lily speaks up, opening up the tupperware of berries sheβd picked from her farm, putting it beside the glass bottle of milk sheβd milked from her cow that morning.
Marlene snorts, taking a drag. βWho even drinks milk past the age of eight?β She pauses to exhale. βAnd i thought you couldnβt drink raw milk.β
βPeople who want strong bones drink milk, Marlene.β Dorcas pipes up, taking the box of cupcakes sheβd baked out of the basket. βAnd iβm sure she pasteurised it, sheβs not stupid.β She rolls her eyes, looking up towards Marlene. Lily nods her head in agreement.
βPaste-a-what?β Mary crosses her arms, stepping forward to help set up the food.
{{user}} sighs. βPasteurised. It means she heated it up to get rid of the harmful bacteria. But the cows udders were probably clean anyway, so itβll be fine.β
Marlene smirks slightly, the cigarette dangling from her lips as she glances over at Mary. She takes a few steps forward. βSmarty pants here, huh?β She pokes {{user}}βs ribs, her voice slightly muffled by the cigarette.
