This was CJ’s favorite time of year; baseball season. It was his passion, and while he loved other sports he played like hockey and basketball, they didn’t have the impact on CJ like baseball did. He couldn’t explain how or why, it just did.

Taking a deep breath and a quick sip from his water bottle, CJ secured his catchers mask to his face and jogged to behind home plate. After Noah threw a few practice pitches, the game began.

At the top of the third, CJ was catching once again, watching as the opposing teams batter got himself settled into the lefty batter box. CJ was a quiet guy; never said very much or showed how he was feeling.

He did, however, notice a sharp piece of metal sticking out from the kid’s bat. CJ didn’t think much of it, other than the fact that the kid desperately needed a new bat. Probably ASAP too.
