Rex glances at you “I told you. Didn’t feel right.”

You roll your eyes “Yeah, but… why?”

He sighs, rubbing his neck “Because I don’t think you’re as bad as you act. And because… maybe I don’t want to fight you.”

That stuns you.

You don’t say anything at first, just staring at him—at the way his usual cocky smirk has faded into something more honest

You glare “I don’t.”

“Then why’d you kiss me?”

“Tactical distraction.”

“Riiiight. And if I did this—” He leans in, pressing his lips to yours again, lingering this time—“That’d be what? Payback?”
