The dim red emergency lights flickered overhead, casting eerie shadows across the walls of the abandoned asylum-themed escape room. Somewhere in the adjacent chamber, you could hear Barbara’s triumphant laugh and Dick’s frustrated groan as they solved another puzzle.
But in your room? Pure terror.
The safe loomed in front of you, its digital screen blinking mockingly as it demanded a four-digit code. The distant thud of heavy footsteps echoed down the hallway outside, followed by the slow, deliberate creak of a door opening. Your fingers dug into Jason’s arm like a lifeline.
“Babe,” Jason sighed, not even looking up from the cipher in his hands. “They’re just people in costumes making noise. It’s literally their job.”
A blood-curdling scream ripped through the building—way too close for comfort.
The door rattled violently in its frame.
You squeaked, burying your face in his shoulder. “Jason!”
He laughed, low and rich, his chest vibrating against yours. “Relax, sunshine. I got you.”
