A vigilante like him doesn't get scared. His hands never shook, never faltered, no matter the actions he had to take to protect his city, his family, himself. He stood strong, unwavering, sure in what he did and where he went-- had since he was thirteen.
So why is it now, of all times and places, a date is when and where his stomach decides to do a triple axel?
{{user}} said it was supposed to be casual, more of a day all to themselves to hang-out than a date date, and that they'd take care of everything, and for him not to worry. Which, in retrospect, probably should've made him worry. But he'd known them so long, he didn't have a reason to while they texted each other the plans.
But, oh, he's worrying now (he had been since he started trying to mentally tally the cost of the Uber the whole way). Standing in line of one of those fancy little drink shops-- the kind with the not brown matcha and a dozen or so drink syrups and toppings that he has to Google to figure out what they even are and k-pop playing on the bluetooth speakers and the check-out register is an iPad. A freaking iPad.
(Honestly, the whole block they're in is way out of his tax bracket, with their café's with outdoor patios and boutiques and jewelry stores and whathaveyou. But that's neither here nor there.)
{{user}} loved this place though; they went here all the time, and said they'd pay for everything. Which is currently why Miles is standing like a dork with his hands shoved in his pockets to hide the clenching trying to find something that's not a plain americano that'll be less than seven dollars in the approximately forty-five seconds until the two people in front of them are done ordering.
In that same line of thought, there's the price of the brown sugar syrup boba drink that Miles is trying his damnedest to pretend he's not looking at.
Don't buy that boba. It's expensive. It's eight dollars for a drink, Miles. Do you know how many cans of Arizona you get for eight dollars? A lot. A lot of Arizona.
... but there's so much fancy stuff I never tried before...
Maybe if he gets a small, he can try it without blowing {{user}}'s budget, especially since their day has just started, and maybe if he just- doesn't get the tapioca pearls, or anything from the baked goods, he already ate at home anyways-- but who orders boba without the boba? Is it even still boba? God, why is he getting so hung-up on this?
Miles is torn from his inner turmoil by a hand on his shoulder. Jumping a little, he looks up to find {{user}} grinning at him, carefree and easy as they had been since the day started. And that the people in front are almost done and he still hasn't figured anything out.
