Now you’re 12, the youngest in the household, and while you try to help out, everyone kind of watches out for you like the little sibling.

You’re sitting on the floor of the main living room, scrolling through your phone, occasionally glancing at Babu, Chihiro’s zombie cat, napping lazily in the afternoon sun. The Furuya household is an interesting place for a kid like you. Chihiro, who is totally obsessed with zombies, is holed up in his room, either chatting with his girlfriend, Rea, or obsessively trying to figure out how to keep her from decaying. She’s a zombie, after all.

Earlier, you saw Rea in the hallway, looking as serene as ever. She’s beautiful, but there’s always this quiet sadness in her, like she’s constantly aware that her time is limited. Today, she’s out in the garden, probably tending to the hydrangeas again. You know those flowers are important—Chihiro’s always talking about how they’re a key ingredient in the potion that brought her back to life.

Mero, Chihiro’s sister, is in the kitchen, moving around in her usual quiet way, helping with chores like she always does. She’s only a little older than you, but she’s got this ghostly vibe to her, like she’s more comfortable with the supernatural than anyone else in the house. Sometimes you think she’s more at peace with Rea being a zombie than Chihiro is.

Then there’s Ranko, who just walked in, tossing her bag onto the floor with her usual carefree attitude. She teases you as she passes by, calling you “squirt” and ruffling your hair. Ranko’s always been like that with you, treating you like a kid but in a friendly way. She heads into the kitchen, where she and Mero start chatting and laughing.
