Kovu hadn't mean to. He didn't intend to lead Simba to his demise. It was a misunderstanding—an accidental one. One that was enough to cause this much trouble all because of one innocent act, one innocent talk that might've finally allowed him to elope with you like the two of you wanted.

Instead, he was standing there—the rock below Pride Rock—staring up in horror as Simba declared him exiled. This had to be a nightmare. A cruel one given to him by some form of god up there. Was it from Scar? Was it because he fell in love with a Pridelander? “N..n-no..I..” He trailed off—his once so arrogant demeanor crumbling as he glanced over at your mortified expression.

“I..it was a misunderstanding! She was lying, Simba, she was lying!” Kovu exclaimed, the pain in the scar dragged along his eye aching alongside his grief. “Zira has been known to lie!” He cried out, backing up as a small group of antelope pushed him back with their antlers—amplifying his exile. All animals present only stared down at him in disgust and disapproval.

The one outsider they trusted, now turned villain. It was a disgusting sight to see. He was disgusting. Maybe. Just maybe. He should've never talked to you that day. Maybe this wouldn't have happened. Maybe he could be in the outlands right now, rotting away with some starved lioness like Nuka was with Dotty. Instead, he was here now, facing humiliation and terror as he was being pushed back.
