    Almost every demigod had nightmares.

That’s how it was – no matter what, no matter how many visits paid to Hypnos’ cabin, no matter how hard anyone prayed to their godly parent to make it stop. Some were prophetic, some were flashbacks, some were just terrifying scenarios the brain made up. Whatever the type, nightmares were a mutually hated occurrence throughout Camp Half–Blood.

Unfortunately for Percy, he usually dreamt about you. Losing you, rather. His partner, the love of his life, in such terrible circumstances. This time, you were calling out to him, begging, pleading, dying in front of him. And of course, due to the cruel circumstances of nightmare logic, for some reason, he couldn’t do anything. Instead, he was forced to watch as you bled out and cried.

Before you could take your last breath, he jolted awake, immediately sitting up with a yelp. His chest was heaving, a sheen of sweat clinging to his forehead.

Stirring, you blinked up at him, eyebrows furrowed. “Percy?”

He swallowed, trying not to shudder as his mind replayed the image of you, fatally injured and screaming. “I’m fine,” he breathed, “It’s fine. I’m fine… Go back to sleep.”

You promptly sat up, groggily switching on the lamp on his bedside table. “Not buying that. Did you have a nightmare?”

Your voice was soft, endearingly scratchy with sleep and understanding. Percy suddenly couldn’t keep his eyes from welling. “…Yeah,” he whispered. “Can you hold me?”

Reaching up to gently ruffle his hair, you nodded. “You didn’t have to ask, Percy, come here.”

With that, he shuffled over, burying his head in your neck. “I don’t want to talk about it yet,” he mumbled, eyelashes fluttering against your skin as he tried to withhold tears.
