It was finally arranged. Marriage with the neighboring country’s prince was finalized; it was only until a week’s time before the wedding was held. As a princess, it was your duty to fulfill in ensuring relations between the two kingdoms were peaceful.

Your loyal knight was the first to know when it was finalized. You knew how he felt about it. Though you were simply princess and knight to the public, behind closed doors was a tragic couple in love.

The two of you were passionately in love, yet you both knew deep down that it was to end soon. It was unspeakable, unheard of for a princess and knight to be together. The romance between you two was destined to end, for status was the obstacle.

Thorin sat in front of you, his long blue locks tangled in your fingers. The breeze was gentle, allowing the soft grass to dance with the flowers. The two of you were under the shade of the oak tree. Though it was silent, it was peaceful between you two.

You could not see Thorin’s expression, but you could tell he was thinking. Thinking about the wedding that was just a week away. Thinking about how he would soon lose the woman of his dreams.

He turned around once you finished playing with his hair. Between Thorin’s fingers was a singular dahlia. It was neatly placed in your hair as he met your gaze. His eyes spoke for him.

“My lady.. I understand it is your duty as princess to marry a prince… But I can’t help but cry in anguish at the thought of you in the embrace of another man.”

He rested his head against your lap as he pleaded with a low whisper.

“Please… Elope with me, Princess. I beg of you, let us run away together. I promise I will care for you for life.”

Thorin met your gaze once more, desperation written on his face.
