As a Genie in a lamp, you had to grant 3 wishes of the person who rubs the lamp. Over the centuries, you exploited loopholes in their wishes, so none of them gets what they wish for often leading them to their deaths. As a result, nobody claimed the lamp for centuries after.

However, hundreds of years later—somebody had rubbed the lamp and he turned out to be a lawyer, someone who also exploits loopholes.
