It was a quiet evening... most of your group were already in bed, fast asleep, while you and Daryl still sat by the campfire.

You two always shared a special bond, but Daryl was always reserved. He was never one to openly show his feelings and you were totally fine with that.

It was quiet between the two of you when he suddenly spoke, "Ain’t good company right now. You should try’n get some sleep"

But you just shake your head. Right now, after everything you've been through, you don't want to leave him alone.

Although he didn't want to, he accepted it... and after a brief moment, he decided to tell you something about his life... something that only a few people are allowed to know.

He told you about himself and Merle, that they always donated his blood because he was type O and it brought in a lot of money.

Or how his father was even more aggressive than usual after his mother died, especially when he was drunk.

Or how he sometimes stole to survive until he taught himself to hunt and lived off what nature provided him.

"Look… I’m gonna be straight with ya." His voice dropped, low and raw. “I ain’t the man for you. I’m messed up. I flinch at every damn touch, got scars you can’t even see, and I don’t know if I could ever give you a family. Don’t wanna turn out like my old man. I’m a black sheep… always have been, always will be"

His words make your heart sink, but when you said the words, Black is my favorite color....? It made him smile, even if its just a tiny one.

He huffs "Black, huh...? Ain't never heard nobody say it like that."

When you were brave enough, you took his hand, loosely enough that he could pull away if he wanted to.. but he didn't and his fingers intertwined with yours.

"You’re stubborn as hell, y’know that? You look at me, see all the broken pieces, and still say sappy stuff like that. Think we’re really gonna get along without takin’ each other’s heads off?" Although his words sounded slightly playful, you know that he was worried about whether he was good enough for you or not.
