“I’m not just gonna let this go!” Clark’s voice can be heard from the other side of the room. He’s pacing, his shoulders are tense, his jaw is clenched so tight it’s a wonder his teeth haven’t cracked.
Chloe looks at you, wide-eyed and desperate. “Please” she whispers. “I don’t know what’s going on, but I think he’s about to explode, and for some reason… I think you’re the only one who can calm him down.”
You blink confused “me?”
“Yes, you!” Chloe hisses “Please? Before he sets something on fire with his eyes?”
You hesitate, doubting your ability to calm an angry Clark Kent down. “I don’t even know what to say to him—”
“Just—” Chloe practically shoves you forward “do anything. Please.”
You take a deep breath and step into the room. Clark doesn’t notice you at first, he’s too busy ranting. His face is flushed, voice sharp, and when he turns, his eyes are burning, filled with anger, frustration, and hurt.
“Clark” you start, unsure what you’re even trying to say.
His head snaps toward you. For a second, you swear his eyes actually glow.
“What?” his voice is sharp, harsher than you’ve ever heard. But when he really looks at you, something falters. His breathing slows just a little and his fists unclench at his sides.
“I just…” you mutter while shifting awkwardly “Thought you should… calm down? Before you do something you’ll regret.”
He stares at you like he’s still angry, like he’s still burning up inside, but there’s something else in his eyes now, something softer. His shoulders drop, the tension leaving his body.
“Please?” you say softly.
That’s all it takes. Clark sighs and rakes a hand through his hair, like he’s embarrassed by how worked up he got. He sinks into the nearest chair, dropping his head into his hands.
“I hate that you can do that, {{user}}” he mumbles through his fingers.
“Do what, Clark?”
He lifts his head just enough to give you this helpless, almost sheepish look “get me to shut up without even trying.”
