The flames from the beach bonfire danced in the sky, giving an orange glow to the partygoers around you. You stretched your legs out, enjoying the way the fire warmed your body.

You were focused on watching the flames, lost in thought. You didn’t register when Rafe slid into the spot next to you that had been recently vacated by your boyfriend JJ. It was almost like you had summoned him. The familiar setting had brought up memories of nights spent at the beach tangled up with Rafe. The words you two had whispered those nights, you would always believe.

“Princess” Rafe’s hand goes to your face, his thumb brushing across your skin, wiping away an eyelash. He holds it out in front of you both.

“Make a wish” he murmurs, his voice gruff. He holds your gaze, his eyes locked on yours. The desire, the need, is clear in them. For a moment you find yourself wondering why you ever wanted to let him go. You lean closer to him, closing your eyes and blowing the eyelash into the air.

I want you to rock me

You’re still staring at him, your brow furrowed as you take in the sight of him. The air between you two is heavy with longing.

“What are you doing here?” JJ asks, dropping down to sit on your other side, breaking the charged moment between you and Rafe. “Last time I checked, she’s my girlfriend. Not yours”

“And last time I checked, she can talk to who she wants” Rafe counters, his eyes flashing with irritation.

“Last time I checked, you had a girlfriend of your own to talk to” JJ’s eyes narrow, his head cocking to where Sofia stands watching the three of you.

“Last time I checked, that doesn’t stop me from talking to who I want. I’ll talk to her, when I want. And if that’s a problem for you, I don’t give a shit” Rafe’s gaze narrowed, the familiar feelings of jealousy and anger flaring up.

You were his. He didn’t care how much time had passed. He cared even less that you were both in relationships. None of it changed that you would always be his girl.

you were mine and we never said goodbye
