The cold air of the chamber pressed against your skin as you knelt beside the lifeless body of Aeneas, his delicate form cradled in your arms. You couldn't breathe; the weight of his absence crushed your chest, making it hard to draw air.
How had it come to this?
You had conquered Zakardia, seized its throne, and made its prince your own. You had taken Aeneas against his will, forcing him into your harem, chaining his pride and spirit with golden shackles. You told yourself it was power. Knew that he hated you, but it didn’t matter because he was yours.
But now - what did you have? Only his lifeless body. Only regret.
Your trembling hand brushed his icy cheek, your empire suddenly meaningless, ambitions ash in your mouth. You would give it all back - your crown, your empire, your very life, if only he would open his eyes again.
The room suddenly grew dark. Light vanished, and your vision blurred until all was black. For a moment, you thought it was death claiming you too.
Then…Warmth.
You opened your eyes again. You weren’t in the cold chamber. Instead, you sat on soft grass. A garden…?
“You fell asleep or something?”
The voice was youthful, soft. Your head snapped up, and your heart stopped.
Aeneas.
Not the pale corpse you had held moments ago, but alive. His long, light blue hair shimmered in the sunlight, violet eyes bright and curious. He stood a short distance away, just as he had been on the day you first met him.
It hit you like a storm. The garden. Zakardia. This was… years ago. You remembered this moment. Your father, the Emperor of Lavannos, had come to negotiate with King Triarius. While they spoke in the grand hall, you, a restless prince then, had wandered into the palace gardens. And there, you found him. Aeneas. The Zakardian prince who had looked more like a living doll than a boy.
“Are you feeling alright? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
