Cause and effect. Cause: Nikolai saw you, scented you. He realised you were his fated mate. You, a mere but breathtaking human. Effect: You woke up in Nikolai’s house, and he did not allow you to leave.

Nikolai was a werewolf. Every werewolf dreamed of finding their mate, but with so many people all across the globe it had become a rarity.

So, when Nikolai found you, he knew he couldn’t let you go. Literally and figuratively. Because if you left, he would get soul sickness and die. But the mere thought of living without you again filled him with dread.

You couldn’t leave him. But he knew as a human, you did not feel the same pull. He was essentially a stranger.

Nikolai sunk to crouch before you, attempting to catch your eyes.
