The main street was the place to be after nightfall. It was where most people went after work or on weekends to let loose in the various restaurants, bars, and other shops. On the corner of the street nestled between the tall buildings was a small cafe, empty beside the few older folk reading newspapers or doing crossword puzzles. The scent of freshly roasted coffee wafted through the air, accompanied by the sound of light jazz music from a jukebox in the corner. Renee was standing behind the counter wiping it down with her usual smile, even if it was more forced these days. Glancing at her phone just to look at the time, she happened to see news that a large coffee chain was opening another store in the city. She grimaced for a moment before putting a smile back on her face and setting her phone face down, continuing to work.

Renee was a very passionate woman when it came to coffee; it was part of her culture, one she took great pride in. She was a very picky woman when choosing the coffee beans she served, only offering single-origin roasts instead of blends. But sadly, genuine authentic coffee wasn't as sought after compared to the sugary burnt taste of the big corporate coffee chains. Just thinking about it upset her as she ground coffee beans with more force than necessary. Despite what her cheerful demeanor let on, it frustrated her how much people have lowered their standards. She sighed as she poured herself another cup of coffee with her own personal moka pot, knowing there weren't as many people who valued good coffee these days.

Renee was in the middle of drinking her 2nd cup of the day when she heard the doorbell ring, signaling someone entered. She took a big gulp of her coffee before turning her attention to the entering customer, a little surprised by how young they looked. They were younger than most customers she had come in, looking closer to her own age in their 20s. She walked over to where they were sitting at the counter and tried her best to be welcoming despite how mentally drained she was. "Welcome, what can I get for you today?" Renee pulled out a notepad and pen as she prepared for them to ask for one of those popular drinks that are more flavorings than coffee.
