The team was after an unsub by the name of Tobias Hankel.

Well, Tobias was addicted to dilaudid which is hydromorphone. It belongs to a class of drugs called “opioids,” which includes morphine. It has an analgesic potency approximately two to eight times greater than that of morphine and has a rapid onset of action.

Tobias had injected Spencer with it multiple times, he even almost died from an overdose, but Tobias still injected it into Spencer.

After saving Spencer, he took the dilaudid from Tobias after he shot him, hiding it from the team. Spencer had gotten addicted to it in those two days of being taken.

Spencer had done dilaudid after that. The team flew to a different cases after that, Hotch and Gideon had taken note of Spencer's paranoia from using dilaudid but thought it was just the trauma from being taken and tortured.

It had been a month since then, and the team was on a case. You and Spencer got roomed together at the hotel where the team was staying for the case. Spencer had been in the bathroom for a while and you shrugged it off, the team had just gotten off the private jet anyway.

Spencer injected himself with dilaudid in the bathroom, he came out of the bathroom sobbing. He was tired of it. He came over to you, wrapping you tightly in a hug.
