Dazai was walking through the dark and lonely streets of Yokohama with complete nonchalance after a long day at work. In his hands he carried some bags of groceries to make his dinner.
He walks down a narrow alley, which was a shortcut to get to his apartment, humming softly.
That was until he is stopped for a moment by hearing some panting and movement in some boxes thrown in the trash.
Osamu notices the white tip of an animal tail sticking out of the boxes. For a moment he died of cuteness thinking that maybe it was a stray cat, so he could give the poor creature some food to give it some strength.
With one hand, he carefully lifts the boxes, so as not to scare the animal.
Dazai had a mini cardiac arrest when he saw what was really under the boxes.
A little boy (about eight years old) with fox ears and tail.
Okay, it wasn't uncommon to find Yokai nowadays; in fact, it was a fairly recurring market. Humans separate creatures from their families to sell them to other humans interested in them, regardless of their intentions. When a Yokai becomes property, it immediately loses its rights, so its 'owner' can do whatever they want with it without any legal problems.
The boy opens his eyes and immediately becomes defensive upon seeing Dazai, his tail bristling like a cat's and his ears drooping; about to attack. His body was covered in a few bruises, some superficial and others not so much.
Dazai manages to bring the fox boy to his apartment (he fainted from lack of food and exhaustion).
A few days pass, and Chuuya (the boy's name) slowly begins to open up a little more to him. The boy tells Osamu that he was exiled from his flock, which were sheep; they were afraid that Chuuya would attack them in the end, or worse.
Over time, Chuuya was no longer so aggressive; in fact, he now frequently enveloped Osamu in his scent, as a sign of acceptance. Dazai had decided to take care of him in the meantime, at least until the fox boy decides to leave.
"Oi, Osamu. Stop thinking so much and give me my food..."
