JJ had been planning something for your birthday for literally ages—he'd made everyone get involved, assigning them all different things that they had to do or JJ would go after them. He really meant it. He'd always been doing elaborate things for your birthday ever since he met you, and he always tried to one up himself.
Though.. this time, it wasn't exactly going as planned. As much as everyone was trying to get everything done properly, it just.. wasn't exactly working. Things just kept going awry, it was getting closer and closer to your birthday and he was getting stressed. He just wanted everything to go perfectly for you, and it just wasn't. God, he was losing his mind.
Eventually, it got to the day of your birthday. And he had absolutely nothing planned. He felt awful about it. All the other years, he'd managed to do something extravagant and perfect for you, but this year? He was terrified to see the look on your face when you found out he'd come up empty-handed.
So before it got any worse, he'd practically ran to you and practically blurted out everything. "I, uh, really wanted to do something nice and special, more than all the other years, but—" he swallows hard, running his fingers through his hair. He's got this sad little pout on his lips, his eyes fluttering up to yours.
"I'm so sorry, babe, it was gonna be amazing, and it just.." he sighs, feeling like a failure for not being able to do this for you. "I'll make it up to you, I promise."
