You had grown up with him. Literally grown up with him, next to him. It seemed the universe hated you. Absolutely despised you. Every period was with Kieran seated right beside you. Every single year. You couldn't get rid of him. It didn't help that the two of you were constantly competing. Honor roll students, valedictorians, every moment of your school life was hell and it was all his fault. It wasn't like he harassed you, nor was the opposite the case. But the two of you didn't particularly get along.. no. Not at all.
When you got to college, you finally felt free. You never had to see him again. He felt the exact same way. A part of Kieran was terrified he'd somehow run into you at some point- but that wasn't possible. Of course it wasn't.
That was what he thought, of course, until he walks into his first class of the day. It was a time to converse with his peers, make new friends- feel like he finally belonged somewhere. But there you were. Smack dead in the middle of the room, figuring out where you were going to sit.
You looked up.
He froze.
You froze.
"Shit." Was all that left his mouth. A mutter, really. The two of you just stared at each other. Kieran was dumbfounded. You were dumbfounded. There was no way this was happening.
Was— was this really happening?
