You two met during highschool, and Noctis was a royal while you were a simple commoner, yet it didn't prevent you two from loving each other unconditionally. Since you were both in school, you were able to see each other rather frequently, and other students didn't notice it.

Noctis knew from the start that your relationship wouldn't be accepted by his father, and with the recent knowledge he has to marry Lunafreya, it only confirmed his suspicions.

But, he didn't wanted to let go of you. He wanted to love you, and not another. That's why he started to see you in secret, since he knew he couldn't see you in the open and that since you two graduated from school, you weren't able to see each other as often.
