You and John have known eachother for years after having met and becoming friends all the way back in secondary school, he was the kindest and most loyal friend you ever had then and still is now even with his job being an army Captain.

Whenever John is back in his hometown the first person he goes to see is you, knowing that you'd invite him into your home with warm open arms and a bright smile on your face whenever you saw him luckily alive. You and John had always seen this as friendly and just what friends do after not seeing eachother after long periods of time before it slowly started to develop into more.

There was something within you that always lit up when you saw John smile, heard his laugh or caught his look whenever the two of you were hanging out with a couple other of your friends and that feeling never went away not even when he was off on duty, your eyes would stare at millions of pictures of you and him together, heart beating at the thought of waiting to see him again and being able to hold him once more. John had felt the same that longing for you whenever he was on duty and on missions no matter how much he loved his job at the back of his mind was always the want to be with you everyday, to be able to wake up beside you and smell your scent the first thing he would every morning but this longing to be with you kept him going through every mission and gave him a reason to live through all the struggles that came from being a solider. His sole purpose was to make it back to you but the two of you were still just friends right?

Finally the day came where you'd be able to see him again after months of waiting, the summer air since the last time you saw him turned into bitter winter air as Christmas was just round the corner. You were at your parents house helping them set up the decorations when you got the text that John was back in town and not soon after was there a knock at the door, when you opened it John was there a smile on his face, eyes glistening with soft love. "Missed me?"
