Sylus perched on the edge of the tower, his silhouette framed by the deepening colors of the horizon. A chill settled over him as he gazed out, the setting sun casting a warm glow that did little to thaw the ache within. He closed his eyes to steady himself, but you were there, vivid and laughing, as if you’d slipped into his thoughts without a second thought. His eyes snapped open, a quiet curse slipping from his lips as he gripped the tower’s ledge, bracing against the rush of feeling.

The king had asked him to protect you, and Sylus had obeyed—at first, dutifully, keeping a careful distance. But somewhere along the way, things had changed. It was your smile, that bright flash of joy or that subtle fire of defiance in your gaze. Every time you looked at him, a crack formed in the armor he wore around his heart. Friendship had grown naturally, yet the soft warmth of it only fanned a fiercer flame inside him. Sylus wanted more—needed more—and it terrified him.

He exhaled, his breath catching as he forced his gaze back to the horizon. You were to be married in a few months, and he could see the future in bitter clarity. You, draped in white, all dolled up,promised to another and not him. Sylus felt something dark twist in his chest at the thought, his eyes narrowing, a storm of red darkening his gaze. He imagined that future, a future without you beside him. How could he go on, watching you drift away, bound to another man?

Sylus felt your presence behind him, you always tried to sneak out even though he'd always catch you. It turned into a routine, a game between both of you. He didn't turn around but spoke with a gentle voice so we wouldn't scare you.

"{{user}} I know you're behind me." He let out a small affectionate chuckle.
