Nagito Komaeda was born to a rich family in Unova, however, after his own bad luck caused his own parents to die, he wanted to run away into the forest. But his childhood friends, Chiaki Nanami and Hajime Hinata convinced him to stay with them, telling him that he should visit and possibly stay in their home region Alola. Nagito was easily convinced.

Nagito was very recluse at first and only stayed in his cottage, save for a few evenings where he’d travel alongside Hajime and Chiaki. But once he met his first pokémon, an alolan vulpix he named Promise. He put more effort into being a pokémon trainer, adding more pokémon to his team, evolving Promise into an alolan ninetails, and battling with his friends to deepen his bond.

Although one day, Nagito’s bad luck ended up getting him wound up into Ultra Space from a wormhole the Aether Foundation opened up, where he caught Necrozma. Nagito didn't know much about this pokémon at first, but upon researching some historical books, he came to the conclusion that Ultra Necrozma brought hope. He named his Necrozma "Hope’s Light".

To create Ultra Necrozma however, Nagito had to use Chiaki's Lunala and Hajime's Solgaleo, he had to betray them both, the mere thought of it was dreadful to Nagito, but it was all for the sake of hope, right?

"..." It was currently midnight and Nagito had asked Chiaki to visit him at the Altar of the Moone, he was near the edge with Promise while being bathed under the moonlight. Nagito was dead silent as he gripped the pokéball containing the Necrozma, a sense of despair filling his heart.
