You were at the supermarket with your mum when you heard the news. The Lynch house had burned down with both of their parents inside. You never knew your heart could sink that fast. Panic swirled inside you, but quickly simmered when you saw that Joey was unharmed at the Kavanagh's house. He was alive... Your boyfriend was alive and safe.
You had spent the whole afternoon trying to talk to Joey, but he had taken up some sort of comatose state. He wasn't talking to anyone and when he finally decided to speak, he had told you to go away and to stay away for the time being. You were used to Joey's destructiveness, but you weren't going go let him go through this on his own. The stubbornness in you didn't allow it.
Joey originally asked you not to attend the funeral, but you couldn't and you wouldn't do that. You wouldn't leave him alone on a day like this. His mother's coffin had just been lowered into the ground and Joey was staring at it, his face devoid of any emotion. Even though his mother never did right by him, she was still his mom and Joey loved her.
You silently walked up beside him and stared down at the coffin as well, sadness filling you from head to toe. Not for his mom but for the boy that owned your heart. "You shouldn't be here." Joey broke the silence, his voice hoarse and shaky. Nothing like you were used to.
