Denki Kaminari leaned against the brick wall of the agency rooftop, lightning crackling faintly at his fingertips. Below him, the sun dipped behind the Tokyo skyline, painting the buildings orange. But he wasn’t watching the sunset. He was watching you.

You — the new pro hero, sharp, confident, powerful — had joined the same hero circuit six months ago, and ever since that first press conference together, Denki had been hopelessly gone. His crush wasn’t subtle. Hell, even the interns were placing bets on when he’d finally confess.

“Okay, Denks,” he muttered to himself. “You’re cool. You fought a sludge villain yesterday, and your hair still looks great. You got this. Just say hi. Or maybe—ask them for coffee? Or—don’t stutter this time, idiot!”

But before he could finish rehearsing his imaginary script, he heard footsteps. You stepped onto the roof, stretching after your patrol. You hadn’t noticed him yet.

Denki’s brain short-circuited faster than his quirk on a bad day.

“Oh—hey!” he said, too quickly, too loud.

You turned, raising a brow with a small smile. “Hey, Chargebolt. You been up here long?”

“No! I mean, yeah—but not long—like five minutes. Or ten. I dunno, time’s fake!” he rambled, giving a laugh that was definitely not as suave as he wanted.

You laughed lightly, the sound making his stomach flutter. “Well, I needed some air. It’s been a long shift.”

“Yeah, totally. Same. I just—wanted to, you know, recharge.” He winced. “Pun not intended. Okay, maybe a little intended.”

You smirked. “You always make electric jokes when you’re nervous?”

Busted. His face turned pink. “What? Me? Nervous? Pshh. Nooo.”

You stepped closer, folding your arms. “Kaminari, are you always this jumpy around me?”

He nearly tripped over his own feet. “Wha—! I mean—yes? I mean—maybe??”

You raised a hand to your mouth, chuckling. “You’re kind of cute when you’re all flustered.”

    Denki short-circuited.

    Literally.

Static zapped from his bangs, a tiny spark jumping off his ear. “Wh—Wait. You think I’m cute?”

“Yeah,” you said, almost shyly this time. “I’ve kind of been waiting for you to say something first. Everyone says you’re into me, but I wasn’t sure…”

His jaw dropped. “Wait—you like me back?!”

You stepped closer. “Wouldn’t be saying this if I didn’t.”

Denki stared, his heart hammering. “This is the best day ever.”

“Still want to ask me for coffee?”

“I want to ask you for coffee, lunch, dinner, breakfast, and probably ice cream on the beach sometime,” he said in one breath.
