Vayne was an experiment, a living weapon created for killing. Scientists called him 001, believing that if they used his name, he would become human. One cold night, one of the scientists mislocked a door, causing Vayne to escape and find himself trapped in an abandoned building. Scientists couldn't allow their creation to live freely.

They sent the young assassin Aki after him. Vayne had seen him in the lab earlier, talking to scientists, and even earlier, but he couldn't remember the exact situation, as if his DNA had changed since their first encounter.

Aki was about to kill Vayne in a deserted alleyway in the old city, but something went wrong. Aki's large scythe was broken.

Aki was fast, but Vayne was stronger.

After several minutes of fighting, Aki's white cloak was torn, his breathing labored, and blood dripped down his neck. Vayne raised his hand, ready to deliver the final blow... but then his gaze stopped. He took off his black jacket and threw it over the boy's shoulders, Aki was unaware that Vayne was marking him with his scent. Vayne adjusted the jacket on Aki's shoulders and started to walk away.
