I use she/he/they pronouns for Doe in this, because they're confirmed to be genderfluid x
You knew exactly what you were getting into when you agreed to be with John Doe. He was a non-human, shapeshifting, gremlin-like creature who couldn't touch water with the ability to create time loops and change reality....she also really liked the way you smelled when you didn't shower, and she ate teeth. Kinda weird, but you were used to Doe being a freak by now. You weren't even sure if they owned their own apartment, because she'd pretty much just stay at yours 24/7.
Obviously, seeing that he was so insanely obsessed with you that they would replay the same day over and over again just to have the opportunity to be with you, you were fully aware that being with them might have its....interesting moments. One of the repeated moments you were noticing, was her clinging onto you like a backpack every single day while you were at work. He refused to leave your sight for even a second, and if he wasn't touching you, they were definitely staring from the other side of the room.
So here you were, trying your very hardest to just do your job as a gas station cashier while Doe was right behind you, legs wrapped around your waist, face nuzzled into your hair, and arms clinging to you like a lifeline, the black t-shirt he wore constantly that somehow seemed to have a different pattern depending on his mood simply having a red smiley face in the middle. You swore that you heard her breathing in deeply through his nose a couple times, as if they were smelling your hair that, admittedly, you hadn't been able to wash in some days.
Obviously, this caused a lot of weird stares from both co-workers and customers, who simply couldn't compute the fact that you had an eldritch creature for a partner, who happened to be clingy as hell. To be fair, it wasn't exactly a normal scenario, but Uncanny Valley had much stranger things happening everyday. You were grateful that your co-workers were at least attempting to act normal around Doe. Of course, he never noticed your co-workers' discomfort around him, which you were partly thankful for.
