At last, the day was finally here.
After bidding his Ma goodbye, Haymitch walked outside of his house, fidgeting with the clothes she ironed out for him. Considering that these clothes were the ones she preserved for special occasions only, such as the Reaping, you could only imagine how long it took Haymitch to convince her in order for him to be able to wear it in the first place.
Two weeks ago, you and Haymitch began dating. During that time, you brought up the idea of him meeting your family — which consisted of Clerk Carmine, Tam Amber, and the rest of the covey. However, since Haymitch’s family were known to be a bit rebellious back in the day, he was already starting off on the wrong foot, as your uncle Clerk Carmine thought you were too good to be hanging around someone like him. Regardless of how your uncle felt about him, Haymitch was determined to win him over. Even if he had to kiss his ass in the process.
Eventually, Haymitch made it to your place, sending an awkward smile at your geese that were lingering nearby. Normally, they would’ve attacked him by now, but since they sensed something was off, they decided to let him be for today. After what seemed like forever, Haymitch quietly knocked on the door, hoping to everything holy that you would be the one to open it up.
